The dish is made up of thin layers of dough that are filled with a variety of fillings, including meat, vegetables, and cheese. The dough is then fried to perfection and served with a variety of dipping sauces.

If you’re looking to try your hand at making mutabbaq at home, you’ll be happy to know that the dish is actually quite simple to make. The most important part is to make sure that the dough is thin so, that it cooks evenly and doesn’t become too chewy.

Mutabbaq ingredients

  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Eggs
  • Minced Meat
  • Tomato (Diced)
  • Cumin (Powder)
  • Black Pepper (Powder)
  • Onions (Leaves Only)

Directions

  • When we want to make mutabbaq basically we divide the work into two parts, dough and meat stuffing. So let’s first prepare the dough. Bring a dough mix and add 1 cup of flour, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp cooking oil, and 1/2 cup of warm water (add gradually). Mix well until you will a get a nice soft dough. If you don’t have a dough mixter you can you use your hands.
  • Second, when you finish the dough, put it in a bowl and cover it for 30 minutes.
  • Third, Let’s prepare the meat stuffing. Bring a bowl, and add 2 eggs, 200 grams of ground meat, 1 small minced tomato, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp black pepper, 3 cup of cut onion leaves, 1/2 tsp salt. Mix well with a spoon.
  • Now, Let’s start making mutabbaq. Bring the dough and divide into about 4 or 5 balls. Take each ball the spread it with a rolling pin. Extra note here, you have to grease the place that you will spread the dough on with oil. Be sure to make the dough thinner as you can.
  • After that, When you finish spreading the dough, add About 3 tbsp of meat stuffing for each. Spread the stuffing a little in the center then fold the dough make it like a square. be sure to cover the stuffing. With this amount you can make 4 – 5 mutabag.
  • Next, Bring a pan or a griddle, add some cooking oil and start frying. Cook each side evenly for About 2 – 3 minutes (for each) on a medium heat.
  • Finally, with this mutabag is ready. You can add some sauce to it this is up to you. Cheers!!!
