Sambar recipe powder is a compilation of various herbs that are finally crushed and mixed well. It’s used a lot in India and Asian countries. Follow me step by step to know exactly how to prepare it.

What is Sambar powder made of?

Sambar powder is a key ingredient in making the perfect sambar. A good sambar powder will have a balance of chili peppers, coriander, cumin, fenugreek seeds, black pepper, asafoetida, and turmeric. It is this balance of spices that gives sambar its characteristic flavor. While you can find sambar powder in Indian grocery stores, it is easy to make at home.

Homemade sambar powder will be fresher and more potent than store-bought powder. Plus, you can tailor the spice level to your liking.

To make sambar powder, toast the spices in a dry skillet over medium heat until they are fragrant. Allow the spices to cool before grinding them into a fine powder using a coffee grinder or spice grinder. Store the sambar powder in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.
